HSES Intern

Provide support to the HSES department by assisting with the day-to-day tasks.  Support various HSES activities including training, safety policies/procedures, environmental documentation, recordkeeping, inspections, and sampling.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with monthly HSE training, content development and tracking of completion. 
  • Assist with HSE metrics and statistical analysis. 
  • Support environmental recordkeeping and permit reviews at the Stephenville facility.
  • Assist with management of hazardous wastes, industrial wastewater, storm water, and air emissions.
  • Assist with development and update of HSES policies and procedures.
  • Assist with development of hazard risk assessments and job safety analysis documents.
  • Support reporting of environmental Key Performance Indicators.
  • Support recycling programs at the Stephenville facility.
  • Assist with HSES communications for Surface Products.
  • Assist with leadership visits and management walkthroughs.
  • Assist with coordinating Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team meetings and trainings.
  • Support HSES content upkeep through Microsoft Teams, Intelex, Power BI, and SharePoint systems.
  • Maintain department filing, scanning and archiving of documentation.
  • Other health, safety, and environmental duties as assigned by HSES supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior classification in a postsecondary education. Seeking bachelor’s degree in industrial or environmental Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Strong PC Skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, as well as external suppliers and organizations.
  • Ability to execute tasks independently. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive data.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks in an environment with large volumes of data and paperwork. 
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic; driven. 
  • Availability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Spend 50% of time in office temperature-controlled environment, 50% of time in shop area 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent sitting and operating PC. Frequent bending and stooping at file cabinets.  Frequent exposure to shop environment including noise, temperature changes, dynamic-active work environment, heavy equipment/machinery and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.  Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
